Landscaping Project

Landscaping project at new build house in Hereford. Designed for low maintenance, relaxing garden.

LANDSCAPING PROJECT.

At  B. A. Garden Services your garden is the most important consideration, therefore when a customer requires a complete garden landscape job it is undertaken with great care and consideration.

Below you can view the outline details for such a landscaping project, undertaken in the Hereford area in May 2010.

before 1

This garden landscaping project was for a ''New Build House'' that had been left by the builders in the usual state - ''rough and ready''.

The home owner wanted a design of low maintenance, practical and relaxing.

Originally there was a small paved area by the entrance to the house - patio doors - which leads to the garage door via a path of paving slabs.

before 2

After discussing various ideas on what to do with the soil and weeds left by the builders, it was agreed that a patio area at the bottom of the slope with steps for access along one side, adjacent to the fence, was the best use of space.

The existing patio area was to be increased as the builders had left enough paving slabs to do so.

Due to the sharp slope of the garden, a middle tier was to be created, which would be covered in a contrasting slate.

before 3

The garden was bordered by 6 ft fence and brick wall/roof of the neighbour''s garage.

The first job - remove weeds, mark out the area for the patio, dig out the soil and remove from site.

new patio

The tiers were created by using landscaping poles as retaining walls and steps.

Landscaping poles are backed by fencing posts and plastic was fastened to the backs before infilling the soil, protecting timber from the damp.

Slabs for the new patio were chosen as a colour to complement the existing patio at the top of the garden.

after 1

Chippings were laid over a weed protection membrane, which was secured in place with pegs.
Chippings for the new pathway, and steps are Newbury Golden Flint 20mm.

extended patio

Once the steps were prepared the middle tier was levelled and ground evened out where the existing patio was extended.

A clematis was planted on the far fence with trellis for support.

after 2

2 bay trees, brought from the customer''s previous property, were planted in the middle

The middle tier was covered with purple slate, a complete contrast in colour from the slabs and chippings.

Note - the slate is not suitable for walkways, due to the sharper edges and more uneven surface created.

after 3

This project shows what can be achieved with a complete make over of a garden.

In this case the customer is left with a practical, low maintenance garden to relax in and enjoy for many years to come.
